Chapter 6 - A New Dawn

One year later.
The afternoon sun shone brightly over the manicured lawns of the DeLuca estate.
The old basement kitchen had been completely renovated into a state-of-the-art culinary space, filled with stainless steel appliances, marble counters, and large windows that let in endless golden light.
Ivy stood at the main prep island, wearing a simple cream-colored linen dress, dusting flour over a large wooden board as she shaped fresh artisan bread. Through the open French doors leading to the garden patio, the smell of blooming roses and warm earth filled the air.
A pair of strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind.
Carmine pressed a soft kiss to her neck, resting his chin on her shoulder, looking at the tray of freshly baked pastries sitting on the counter.
“You’re going to make the estate staff fat if you keep baking every weekend,” Carmine teased gently, his voice full of warmth and humor.
Ivy laughed, turning in his arms, leaving a light streak of white flour across his pristine black shirt collar.
“They love my baking, and you know it,” she smiled, wrapping her arms around his neck. “Besides, the grand opening of Ivy’s Bakery downtown is next month. I need to practice.”
“The mayor called this morning,” Carmine smiled, wiping the flour from his collar with a chuckle. “He promised to cut the ribbon himself. He knows better than to keep my wife waiting.”
Ivy looked at him, her heart overflowing with deep, unshakeable happiness.
In the past year, Carmine had systematically transitioned his business out of the dark shadows and into legitimate, high-end commercial real estate and international shipping logistics. The estate was no longer a fortress of fear; it was a sanctuary filled with laughter, music, and love.
Hand-in-hand, Carmine and Ivy walked out onto the sunlit patio overlooking the gardens.
In the distance, the city of Nashville sparkled under the clear blue sky.
Ivy leaned her head against Carmine’s shoulder as he wrapped his suit jacket around her to ward off the gentle afternoon breeze.
“What are you thinking about, my queen?” Carmine whispered into her hair.
Ivy smiled, holding his hand tightly, feeling the gold wedding band resting securely on her finger.
“I was thinking about the night you locked the kitchen door,” she said softly, looking up into his dark, loving eyes. “And how a broken maid found her king.”

Carmine pulled her close, kissing her deeply under the warm sun.
“You were never just a maid, Ivy,” Carmine murmured against her lips. “You were always my home.”
