Chapter 12 - A New Legacy

The morning sun broke through the clouds, casting a warm, golden glow over the manicured lawns of the military cemetery.

I stood before my father's headstone, a simple, elegant piece of white marble. The inscription read:

ARTHUR WRIGHT A LOVING FATHER, A TRUE PATRIOT.

I placed a single red rose on the grass beneath it.

"We did it, Dad," I whispered, the wind carrying my voice away. "The company is safe. Your legacy is safe."

I felt a presence beside me. I looked up to see General Carney standing there, dressed in civilian clothes—a simple suit. He offered a warm, genuine smile.

"I thought I might find you here," he said.

"I wanted to let him know," I replied.

"He knows, Victoria," Carney said, looking at the headstone. "The board officially confirmed your appointment as Chief Executive Officer of Titan Tactical Systems this morning. The share price has already rebounded, and the Department of Defense just renewed our primary contract for the Vanguard system—now renamed the Wright Defense Initiative in your father's honor."

"I heard," I said, a small, genuine smile finally touching my lips. "We’re going to use a portion of the profits to fund a new foundation. A transition program for combat veterans returning to civilian life. No more secrets. No more forgotten heroes."

"Your father would have loved that," Carney said.

We turned and began to walk slowly back toward the parking lot, the green hills of the cemetery stretching out around us.

For the first time in twelve years, I didn't feel the weight of the scars beneath my clothes. I didn't feel the phantom pain of the fire, or the cold sting of betrayal.

I was no longer a ghost hiding in the shadows of a classified file.

I was Victoria Wright. A soldier, a daughter, and a leader. And my story was finally, truly, my own.
