CHAPTER 2 — The Call That Woke a Storm

Alexander didn’t touch anything else.
Not the doorframe.
Not the hallway.
Not even his own breath seemed steady.
He just looked at Sofia like his world had collapsed into one point in space—her bruised face on Elena’s couch.
Then something inside him changed.
A stillness.
The kind that comes right before violence is no longer a threat, but a decision.
“Who did this?” he asked again.
Sofia flinched.
Elena answered instead.
“The Robles family. Carmen. Javier. Six women inside a hotel suite after the reception.”
Alexander stood slowly.
Too slowly.
Like a man forcing himself not to break something in front of his daughter.
“Where is he now?”
Sofia whispered, “The hotel. They said the wedding party continues tomorrow morning. Brunch.”
Alexander nodded once.
“Good.”
That single word made Elena look up sharply.
“You’re not going alone,” she said.
He finally looked at her.
And for the first time in years, she saw the man she had once married—not the quiet businessman people underestimated, but the version of him who had built half his empire on controlled destruction.
“I won’t,” he said.
Then he took out his phone.
Three calls.
No hesitation.
“Bring the legal team,” he said into the first call.
Pause.
“Wake the board.”
Pause.
“And call security—no one moves in or out of the Robles hotel without my permission.”
He ended the call.
Sofia tried to sit up. “Dad… please don’t do something illegal.”
He knelt beside her again.
His voice softened.
“What they did to you was already illegal.”
Her lip trembled.
“I don’t want more violence.”
Alexander looked at her for a long moment.
Then he said something that made Elena freeze.
“I’m not going for violence.”
A pause.
“I’m going for everything they own.”
By 6:12 a.m., the Robles hotel suite was surrounded.
Not by police.
By lawyers.
Private investigators.
And two men who had once served in military intelligence under Alexander’s old business contacts.
Inside the hotel, Carmen Robles was sipping coffee like nothing had happened.
Javier adjusted his tie.
“You’re overreacting,” he said. “It was discipline. She disrespected our family.”
Carmen smiled.
“She’ll come around. Women always do.”
Then the door opened.
But it wasn’t housekeeping.
It was Alexander.
Behind him, Elena stood with Sofia in a wheelchair.
Sofia wore a soft blanket over her shoulders, but her face was visible now.
Carmen froze.
“Alexander?” she said slowly. “This is a private matter.”
Alexander walked in.
Calm.
Controlled.
Dead quiet.
“No,” he said. “It stopped being private the moment your son helped beat my daughter.”
The air changed instantly.
Javier stepped forward. “That’s a serious accusation.”
Alexander tilted his head slightly.
“I have the video.”
Silence.
Carmen’s smile flickered.
“What video?”
Elena pulled out her phone and pressed play.
Sofia’s voice filled the room.
The crying.
The counting.
The slaps.
The laughter.
Forty strikes.
Then Javier’s voice:
“Don’t hit her too much in the face.”
The sound drained the oxygen from the room.
Carmen’s coffee cup shook.
“That’s edited—”
“No,” Alexander interrupted. “It’s timestamped, cloud-backed, and already sent to your law firm, your donors, and the board of your husband’s foundation.”
Javier’s face went pale.
“You’re bluffing.”
Alexander took one step closer.
“I built half this city’s legal infrastructure. I don’t bluff.”
A pause.
May you like
Then quietly:
“You should’ve picked a weaker family to attack.”
