Chapter 3 - The Siege Begins

At 9:15 AM on Monday morning, I was sitting in my glass-walled executive office on the 40th floor of the Prudential Plaza, drinking black coffee.
My assistant, Hannah, walked in, looking pale. "Olivia... your family is in the lobby downstairs. Building security is holding them, but your mother is screaming at the front desk guard, claiming she owns the building."
"Let them up," I said smoothly, taking a slow sip of coffee. "Just send two security officers up with them to ensure they don't break my decor."
Two minutes later, the double glass doors to my suite burst open.
Margaret stormed in, her designer trench coat billowing, flanked by Richard and Carter. Isabelle was nowhere to be seen—likely sleeping off her wedding hangover.
"You monstrous brat!" Margaret shrieked, slamming her leather handbag down on my conference table. "The bank just froze Carter’s corporate credit line! They said there’s an active fraud investigation attached to the Lake Geneva property! What did you do?!"
Richard stepped forward, his face red and blotchy, breathing heavily. "Olivia, have you lost your mind?! You filed a legal dispute against your own family? Do you have any idea what this will do to my reputation? To Carter’s business?!"
I didn't stand up. I stayed seated in my high-backed leather chair, looking at them with cool indifference.
"You forged my name, Richard," I said, dropping the title Dad entirely. "You took a property left solely to me by Grandmother, forged my signature onto a quitclaim deed, and used it as illegal collateral for a $1.8 million business loan for your son-in-law."
Carter took a step forward, trying to look imposing, though his hands were trembling in his pockets. "It was an emergency transfer, Olivia! Vance Logistics was facing a temporary liquidity freeze! We were going to pay it back before you even noticed! We're family—we share resources!"
"We don't share anything, Carter," I said coldly. "You are a failed businessman who married my sister thinking she came with a multi-million-dollar trust fund. But you didn't do your homework. Isabelle doesn't have a dime. I am the money in this family. And I am officially closed for business."
"You wicked, arrogant bitch!" Margaret screamed, lunging across the desk toward me.
Before she could reach me, the two beefy security officers stepped into the room, expertly grabbing Margaret by the arms and pinning her back.
"Get your hands off me! Do you know who I am?!" Margaret thrashed wildly.
"I know exactly who you are, Mrs. Parker," I said, leaning forward. "You are a woman whose life is about to unravel. You hit me on Saturday night in front of two hundred people. I’ve already secured the security footage from the Drake Hotel. My attorneys filed formal battery charges with the Chicago Police Department an hour ago."
Margaret froze. The color drained from her face so fast she looked like a ghost. "You... you called the police on your own mother?"
"You aren't my mother," I said, my voice cutting like a razor. "Mothers protect their children. You treated me like a bank account you could beat into submission. Security, please escort these trespassers off the premises. If they step foot on this floor again, have them arrested for criminal trespass."
"Olivia, wait!" Richard panicked, trying to break free from the second guard. "If the bank pulls that loan, Vance Logistics goes under! I personally guaranteed $500,000 of that debt! They will come after my house! They will take our home!"

I looked Richard dead in the eye.
"Then I suggest you start packing," I said.
