Chapter 2 - The Firestorm Breaks

By 2:00 PM, the quiet coastal town of Sayulita was transformed into a media circus.

Outside the small hospital, satellite news vans from across the country parked along the curb. Microphones and cameras crowded the entrance. The video clip uploaded by Carlos Salcedo had gone viral across the globe, racking up over forty million views in less than five hours.

The internet was burning with rage. The hashtag #JusticeForMarianaAndNico was trending at the top of every global network.

Inside the hospital room, the television screen showed the full, unedited footage played on loop:

The bright lights of the yacht. Teresa Salcedo’s hand shoving tiny Nico over the railing. Claudia Salcedo sipping champagne with a cruel smile. Rodrigo Salcedo holding Mariana’s wrist like an iron clamp, muttering those cold words before Teresa pushed Mariana into the dark sea. And finally, the yacht accelerating away into the night, leaving a mother and child to drown.

The public outcry was unprecedented.

Suddenly, the hospital room door was pushed open by two federal officers in crisp dark uniforms, followed by Carlos Salcedo himself—a tall, weathered man with graying hair, sharp brown eyes, and a long wool coat.

"Uncle Carlos," Mariana whimpered, tears filling her eyes.

Carlos walked over, wrapping his strong arms around his niece, holding her tight while gently smoothing Nico’s hair. "I’ve got you, my girl. I’m so sorry I wasn't there last night. But I swear on our family's name, they will never lay a hand on you again."

"Did you see what they did, Carlos?" Mariana sobbed against his shoulder. "They threw my baby into the ocean!"

"I saw," Carlos said, his voice laced with absolute, icy authority. "And so did forty million other people. The Federal Attorney General’s office just took jurisdiction over the case away from the local Puerto Vallarta police. The local authorities were being paid off by your father, but they can't cover this up anymore."

One of the federal officers stepped forward. "Miss Salcedo, I am Deputy Director Vargas of the Federal Police. We have issued immediate arrest warrants for Rodrigo Salcedo, Teresa Salcedo, and Claudia Salcedo for attempted murder, criminal abandonment at sea, and obstruction of justice."

Mariana looked at the officer, feeling a strange mix of disbelief and vindication. "Are they... where are they now?"

"Their private estate in Puerto Vallarta is currently surrounded by federal agents," Director Vargas replied. "They tried to board a private jet to Miami an hour ago, but the Civil Aviation Authority grounded all Salcedo family aircraft. They are trapped."

Carlos turned to Mariana, holding up his tablet. "Look at this, Mariana."

The screen showed a live broadcast from outside the gated Salcedo mansion in Puerto Vallarta. Hundreds of angry citizens had gathered at the iron gates, holding signs, chanting Nico’s name, and throwing red paint against the marble walls.

Inside the mansion, the Salcedo family’s empire was crumbling faster than a house of cards in a hurricane.
