Chapter 5 - Reclaiming the Crown

Six months later.
The high-rise boardroom of Sterling Global was bathed in bright afternoon sunlight. The floor-to-ceiling glass windows offered a panoramic view of the bustling city below.
Clara sat at the head of the long mahogany conference table, clad in a sleek, cream-colored business suit. Beside her sat Marcus, smiling proudly as he reviewed the quarterly reports.
After the collapse of Vance Financial, Clara had bought out the remaining assets of the firm for pennies on the dollar, restructured the entire business, purged the corrupt board members, and renamed the firm Sterling-Hope Financial.
Instead of preying on small businesses, the company now focused on sustainable ethical investments, community funding, and supporting women-led enterprises across the country. Under her brilliant leadership, the company’s valuation had doubled in less than half a year.
A quiet knock sounded at the door, and her executive assistant stepped inside.
"Miss Sterling," the assistant said softly, "the legal department has sent the final bankruptcy and incarceration updates regarding Mr. Julian Vance."
"Read it," Clara said calmly.
"Julian Vance was sentenced yesterday to eight years in a federal penitentiary for financial fraud," the assistant reported. "All his personal assets have been liquidated to pay back the company's creditors. His father's estate was seized, and Chloe Dupont’s family has fled the country following tax evasion investigations."
Clara nodded slowly. There was no joy in her face, nor was there anger. Just a quiet, profound sense of closure.
"Thank you," Clara said softly. "You may go."
Marcus leaned back in his leather chair, looking at his sister with admiration. "You handled that well, Clara. Most people would have celebrated."
"Revenge isn't the goal, Marcus," Clara smiled gently, looking out at the city horizon. "Living well and building something meaningful is. Julian destroyed himself with his own greed and arrogance. I just stopped standing in his way."
"Speaking of living well," Marcus said, a rare, playful smirk touching his lips, "someone is waiting for you downstairs."
May you like
Clara blushed slightly. "Marcus..."
"Go," Marcus chuckled, waving his hand dismissively. "I can handle the rest of these reports. Don't keep him waiting."
