Chapter 4 - The Collapse of NexoCloud

Dead silence enveloped the boardroom.

Jonathan stood frozen, his eyes darting between me, Evelyn, and the Vanguard attorneys. The venture capital angels seated at the middle of the table began to murmur frantically among themselves, their faces pale with sudden panic.

"No..." Jonathan whispered, shaking his head in disbelief. "No, that's impossible. You're an administrative assistant! You rent an apartment in Baltimore! You drive a five-year-old Honda!"

"I spent two years living under an alias because I wanted to know if a man could love me for who I was, rather than the fourteen billion dollars my firm controls," I said coldly. "You passed every test, Jonathan. Until last night."

"Fourteen... billion?" Arthur choked out, sinking back into his chair, his eyes wide with horror as he looked at me. "She... she has billions?"

"You pretended to be poor?" Jonathan screamed, his panic turning into white-hot rage. "You lied to me! You tricked my entire family! We welcomed you into our home!"

"You welcomed me by dumping a bucket of dirty underwear at my feet on my wedding night," I corrected calmly. "And when I refused to be treated like an unpaid servant, you struck me."

The room gasped. The other venture capital investors at the table turned their heads to stare at Jonathan in absolute disgust.

"You hit her?" one of the lead angel investors, a man named Henderson, barked at Jonathan. "Are you out of your mind, Miller?!"

"I didn't! She's lying!" Jonathan stammered frantically, sweating profusely. "It was just a disagreement! A private family matter!"

"It became a corporate matter the moment you committed domestic violence against the primary investor of your company," Marcus Vance interjected, pulling a document from his briefcase. "Mr. Miller, this morning you were formally served with a petition for absolute dissolution of marriage, alongside a temporary restraining order."

Jonathan looked down at the crumpled paper Arthur had pulled from the trash outside, his hands shaking so violently he dropped it onto the table.

"Now, regarding NexoCloud," I continued, leaning forward. "Vanguard Capital hereby formally terminates all negotiations regarding the $120 million Series B funding round."

The room exploded into chaos.

"Ms. Vance! Please!" Henderson pleaded, standing up and waving his hands at me. "NexoCloud has viable tech! Don't punish the company for the founder's personal actions! We can remove Jonathan as CEO! We can strip his equity!"

"Jonathan owns forty-five percent of the voting shares, Henderson," I replied smoothly. "Without a complete buyout—which you don't have the capital to execute—he remains the majority owner. Vanguard will not deploy a single dollar into an enterprise controlled by a domestic abuser."

Jonathan fell back into his chair as if he had been punched in the chest. "Charlotte... please. You can't do this. NexoCloud is my life's work! We owe four million dollars to Amazon Web Services for server infrastructure due next week! If Vanguard pulls out, we are bankrupt!"

"Then I suggest you ask your mother to help you wash away your debts," I said coldly.

I stood up, buttoning my charcoal jacket.

"Effective immediately," Evelyn added, following my lead, "Vanguard has notified Sterling Partners, Blackwood Asset Management, and Apex Ventures of our withdrawal. None of them will touch NexoCloud."

"You ruined me!" Jonathan screamed, jumping up from the table, his face distorted with rage. "You ruined my company over a slap?!"

"You ruined yourself the second you thought you could put your hands on a woman and suffer no consequences," I said, stepping toward the door.

"Charlotte! Wait!" Jonathan ran around the table, reaching out to grab my arm.

Before his fingers could touch my suit, my lead security guard seized Jonathan by the wrist, twisting it behind his back and pinning him brutally against the glass wall of the boardroom.

"Touch her again, Mr. Miller," the guard whispered coldly in his ear, "and you won't leave this floor on your feet."

I didn't turn back. I walked out of the boardroom, leaving behind the sound of Jonathan’s desperate shouting and the panicked yelling of his investors as NexoCloud crumbled into dust.
