Chapter 10 - The True Legacy

Years passed softly over the Long Island estate, bringing with them endless seasons of joy, security, and warmth.
The cold, terrifying reputation of Adrian Moretti remained legendary throughout the criminal underworld, ensuring that no rival syndicate ever dared to cross his borders or threaten his peace. But within the walls of his thirty-two-room home, Adrian was simply a loving guardian, a fair leader, and a man who had reclaimed his humanity.
Lily grew into a brilliant, kind-hearted young girl, excelling in her studies and showing the same sharp, observant mind that had saved Bruno years ago. Clara remained the beloved matriarch of the household, running the estate with grace and warmth.
And Bruno, the gentle giant whose disappearance had exposed a nest of vipers and unlocked the heart of a cold mafia don, lived out the rest of his long, glorious years in absolute comfort. He spent his afternoons lying on his sunlit cushion by the fireplace, surrounded by the people who loved him most.
One warm autumn evening, as the sun set over the Long Island Sound, painting the sky in shades of gold and deep purple, Adrian sat on the rear terrace with a glass of wine.
Lily, now seven years old, was sitting beside him on the stone bench, reading a book aloud. Bruno was lying at their feet, his massive head resting comfortably across Adrian’s boots, his breathing heavy and peaceful.
Clara walked out, draping a warm blanket over Lily’s shoulders and handing Adrian a warm cup of coffee.
"It’s getting chilly out here," Clara smiled gently.
"Just a few more minutes," Adrian replied, looking out over the peaceful estate. He rested his hand on Bruno’s soft, velvety head, feeling the slow, steady heartbeat of the loyal mastiff.
He remembered the dark, rainy night he had returned from Chicago, expecting a cold, empty house and the loss of his truest friend. He remembered the tiny voice of a child whispering in the dark corridor, exposing the betrayal that lived under his own roof.
A single lie had threatened to destroy him, but a child’s truth and a dog’s unconditional loyalty had saved his life, his home, and his soul.

Adrian looked at Lily, then at Clara, and finally down at his faithful hound.
"We're safe now," Adrian whispered into the cool evening breeze, a smile touching his lips. "We're finally home."
