Chapter 3: Minutes of Agony

Inside the ultrasound room, the tension was suffocating. The only sound was the rhythmic beep of the heart monitor and the squish of the cold gel being applied to Khloe's stomach. Marcus stood by the bedside, his knuckles white as he squeezed Khloe’s hand.

"I'm sorry, Marcus... I couldn't protect our son," Khloe wept, the physical pain eclipsed by the overwhelming guilt and fear of a mother.

"Shh, don't say that. It's not your fault, Khloe. I should have been there. I should have never left you alone with that viper," Marcus murmured, kissing her forehead, his own tears blurring his vision. The powerful CEO of Thorne Enterprises felt completely powerless.

The OB/GYN, Dr. Evans, stared intently at the monitor. The silence stretched for what felt like an eternity.

"Okay, I see the heartbeat," Dr. Evans finally spoke, her voice calm but serious.

Marcus and Khloe both let out a ragged breath.

"However," Dr. Evans continued, frowning slightly, "the trauma has caused a partial placental abruption. There is internal bleeding near the site of impact. Khloe, the kick missed the baby directly, but the force has compromised the placenta. We need to stabilize you immediately. You are on strict bed rest, and if the bleeding doesn't stop, we will have to perform an emergency C-section. At seven months, the baby's lungs aren't fully developed."

Khloe’s heart sank. Her baby was alive, but he was in grave danger. Every second was now a battle against time.
