Chapter 6 - A New Dawn

Ethan walked over to Lupita. Because his hands were full with Lily and the roses, he bowed his head slightly in a gesture of profound respect.

"Lupita," Ethan said gently. "Tonight, when everyone else chose cruelty and arrogance, you chose empathy. You saw a tired father and a little girl, and you risked your own job to protect them. That is the true spirit of the Grand Regent."

Lupita swallowed the lump in her throat, a tear of relief escaping her eye. "Thank you, Mr. Vance. I just remembered what it was like when my own father worked late. I couldn't watch them treat you that way."

Ethan smiled. "As of tonight, you are no longer in housekeeping. Arthur, process Lupita’s promotion to Assistant General Manager of this flagship property immediately. She will undergo executive training, paid for entirely by the corporate foundation. And until a permanent replacement is found, she will have final authority over this lobby."

Lupita’s hands flew to her mouth. "Mr. Vance... I... I don't know what to say. Thank you so much!"

"You earned it, Lupita," Ethan said.

The next morning, the sun rose over the Chicago skyline, casting a warm, golden glow into Suite 904. The room was beautiful, but the most beautiful thing in it was a crystal vase sitting on the central table. Inside it were the red roses. They hadn't been replaced; instead, with Lupita's careful help the night before, they had been trimmed, nourished, and brought back to vibrant life.

Lily woke up, stretching her arms out, a bright smile on her face. She looked at the table and gasped.

"Daddy! Look! Mommy’s roses look so pretty!"

Ethan walked over, kneeling beside his daughter, and pulled her into a warm embrace. For the first time in three years, the anniversary of Sarah’s passing didn't feel entirely cloaked in heavy grief. It felt filled with hope.

"They do look pretty, Lily," Ethan whispered, kissing her forehead. "They remind us that no matter how rough the night gets, if you hold on to kindness, the morning will always bring something beautiful."
