Chapter 7 - The Masterpiece
Two years later. Spring.
The Seaport Penthouse project was officially completed.
A grand opening gala was being held in the sweeping glass atrium of the top-floor suite, attended by Boston’s top architects, interior designers, real estate moguls, and city officials.
The space was breathtaking. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows offered an unobstructed 360-degree view of the glowing Boston harbor and the historic city skyline. Warm oak paneling, custom brass fixtures, and curated art pieces created an atmosphere of sophisticated, timeless luxury.
At eight o'clock, the president of the development firm stepped up to the microphone in the center of the room.
"Ladies and gentlemen," the president announced, his voice echoing through the glass atrium. "Tonight, we celebrate the completion of the most prestigious residential development in the city. And that success is due entirely to the visionary talent of our lead interior designer—Rachel Bennett!"
The room erupted into loud, enthusiastic applause.
I stood near the glass window, holding a glass of champagne, my cheeks flushed with happiness as people turned to smile and clap for me.
Beside me, Julian pulled me close against his side, his arm wrapped around my waist, pressing a proud, sweet kiss against my temple.
"You built an empire, my love," Julian whispered in my ear.
I looked around the room. Standing among the crowd were my friends, my clients, my team, and Natalie, who was cheering loudly from the back row.
I had spent ten years of my life believing that my purpose was to shrink myself so that another person could shine. I had spent years managing Daniel’s life, believing that loyalty meant enduring emotional neglect and disrespect.
