Chapter 2 – The Courthouse
The divorce hearing drew reporters from across Pennsylvania.
Richard arrived with Vanessa at his side.
Confident.
Relaxed.
Certain the settlement had already been decided.
Khloe entered alone.
She wore a simple navy maternity dress and carried no expression at all.
As she climbed the courthouse steps, Vanessa hurried after her.
"You should've signed the agreement," Vanessa said.
Khloe continued walking.
"I have nothing to say to you."
Vanessa stepped in front of her.
"You've already lost."
Khloe tried to move around her.
Instead, Vanessa shoved her.
It happened so quickly that no one reacted until Khloe lost her balance.
Her body struck the marble steps again and again before finally coming to rest below.
Silence consumed the entrance.
Richard froze.
Vanessa stared at her own trembling hands.
Then Harrison appeared.
He rushed to his sister, calling her name as courthouse security dialed emergency services.
Several witnesses had already begun recording.
Judges.
Attorneys.
Court officers.
No one questioned what they had seen.
