Chapter 6 - The Vance Legacyư

Two years later.

The grand ballroom of the Saint Aurelia Foundation was bathed in warm golden light, filled with the soft chatter of hundreds of high-profile guests, doctors, and philanthropists. The annual Vance Gala was a massive success, raising over fifty million dollars for the new Audrey Vance Neonatal Intensive Care Wing—a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to saving premature babies born to low-income families.

I stood near the podium, wearing a stunning midnight-blue silk gown, my hair styled in elegant waves. Next to me stood my grandfather, Arthur, looking incredibly proud as he held a glass of champagne.

But my eyes weren't on the crowd of celebrities or politicians. They were fixed on a small, brightly lit play area near the side of the stage.

There, two toddlers were running around in miniature formal wear. Liam, looking sharp in a tiny tuxedo, was busy building a tower of plastic blocks, while Chloe, in a beautiful white tulle dress, was laughing merrily as she tried to catch a balloon. They were healthy, bursting with energy, and completely unaffected by the dark shadows of their birth.

A handsome man in a sharp black tuxedo walked over to the play area, catching Chloe as she tripped and lifting her high into the air, causing her to squeal with delight. It was Thomas Evans, the chief pediatric surgeon who had saved my twins' lives during their first critical weeks in the NICU. Over the past two years, our professional relationship had slowly, beautifully turned into something much deeper. Thomas loved Liam and Chloe as if they were his own, and for the first time in my life, I knew what it felt like to be loved by a man of real honor and integrity.

Thomas walked over to me, holding Chloe on his hip while Liam trotted along beside him, clutching Thomas’s hand.

"The guest of honor is falling asleep on my shoulder, Audrey," Thomas smiled, his warm brown eyes filled with affection. "I think the great-grandchildren of the Vance empire have had enough of high society for one night."

Arthur Vance laughed, gently tapping Liam's nose. "Let them stay up a bit longer. A Vance never leaves a party early when they are the ones hosting it."

I smiled, leaning against Thomas’s shoulder as he wrapped his free arm around my waist.

Right at that moment, my assistant approached me quietly, holding a tablet. "Miss Vance, sorry to interrupt. We just received the final quarterly report on the court-mandated restitution payments from Dominic Miller."

I glanced down at the screen. Because of the financial fraud cases brought against him by our legal team, every single dollar Dominic made above the poverty line was automatically garnished and paid directly to the Vance Foundation's charity fund for single mothers. He was essentially working for my charity for the rest of his life, a living testament to the consequences of cruelty.

"Thank you, Elena," I said, sliding the tablet away. "Send it to the accounting team. I don't need to see his name ever again."

I looked back at my beautiful children, at my proud grandfather, and at Thomas, the man who stood by my side not for wealth or power, but out of genuine devotion.

The past was completely gone, paid for in full. The future belonged to us, built on a foundation that no greedy heart could ever tear down.
