Chapter 5: The Aftermath

The departure of Diane Sinclair was swift and humiliating. Security escorted her out as the staff watched—the same staff who had ignored Maria.
Richard sat in his kitchen, a space he had never spent real time in. He watched as Maria made a cup of tea. It was simple, unpretentious, and perfect.
"I'm restructuring the company," Richard said, looking at the gardens outside. "I’m spending too much time in airports, Maria. I’m tired of hotel suites. I think... I think I’d like to actually live here."
Maria looked at him, her eyes searching for the truth behind his words. "A house isn't a home just because you stop traveling, Mr. Whitfield. It’s a home because of the people who fill it."
