Chapter 5 She Thought She Ruled This Mansion—Until the Door Swung Open and Her Worst Nightmare Stepped Inside

Chapter 5: The Siege of Blackwood Estate

The first SUV stopped just beyond the iron gates.

Then the second.

The third.

Within seconds, thirteen identical black vehicles lined the winding driveway, their headlights cutting through the rain like blades.

No one stepped out.

They simply waited.

Inside Blackwood Estate, the silence was unbearable.

Oliver stood beside Sebastian, gripping his father's hand.

"Are they coming for us?"

Sebastian never took his eyes off the windows.

"I don't know."

Detective Ryan Mercer checked the magazine in his service pistol.

"We're not waiting to find out."

He spoke into his radio.

"All units, secure every entrance. No one enters this estate without my authorization."

Static.

Then silence.

Ryan frowned.

"My radio's dead."

Every phone in the room suddenly lost its signal.

The Wi-Fi vanished.

Even the landlines went silent.

Someone had cut them off from the outside world.

"They've jammed every communication channel," the lawyer said quietly.

Sebastian turned toward Mrs. Harper.

"Take Oliver to the panic room."

Oliver immediately shook his head.

"I'm not leaving you."

"You need to."

"No."

For the first time, the boy's voice carried determination instead of fear.

"I'm tired of hiding."

Sebastian looked into his son's eyes.

He saw something that hadn't been there before.

Courage.

The same courage Oliver's mother had always possessed.

Before Sebastian could answer, the estate's security chief rushed into the foyer.

"Sir!"

"What is it?"

"We've identified the vehicles."

Sebastian waited.

"They belong to companies that don't exist."

Ryan exchanged a glance with him.

"Shell corporations."

The security chief nodded.

"Every registration is fake."

A loud metallic click echoed outside.

The massive front gate slowly swung open.

No one had touched the controls.

"They hacked the system," Ryan muttered.

One by one, the SUVs rolled forward.

Not fast.

Not aggressively.

Slowly.

Almost politely.

As if they already owned the estate.

The lead vehicle stopped in front of the mansion.

Its rear door opened.

An elderly man stepped into the rain.

He carried no umbrella.

No weapon.

Only a polished wooden cane topped with a silver raven.

His gray suit was immaculate despite the storm.

His white hair was perfectly combed.

He looked more like a university professor than a criminal.

He smiled toward the mansion.

"Sebastian."

His voice echoed through hidden speakers mounted somewhere outside.

"It has been far too long."

Inside, Victoria heard that voice.

Every ounce of color disappeared from her face.

She whispered only one name.

"Gabriel Ashcroft."

Ryan looked sharply at her.

"You know him?"

Victoria slowly nodded.

"He... he built the organization."

"The Silver Raven," Sebastian said.

Victoria closed her eyes.

"It wasn't supposed to become this."

Outside, Gabriel Ashcroft smiled as if he had heard every word.

"Victoria."

His voice floated through the rain.

"You disappoint me."

The guards around Victoria instinctively reached for their weapons.

The old man laughed softly.

"You still believe walls can protect you."

He raised one hand.

Nothing happened.

Then—

Every light inside Blackwood Estate went dark.

Emergency generators failed.

Backup batteries died.

The mansion disappeared into darkness.

Only flashes of lightning illuminated the halls.

Oliver felt Sebastian pull him close.

"Stay beside me."

"I will."

A soft chime echoed through the house.

Every television flickered on once again.

Gabriel's face appeared.

"Allow me to explain."

His smile widened.

"Eleven years ago, Olivia discovered something she never should have seen."

Sebastian's breathing slowed.

Every word mattered.

"She uncovered Project Raven."

Ryan immediately opened his notebook.

"What is Project Raven?"

Gabriel answered without hesitation.

"A network."

"For what?"

"Power."

The old man spoke as though giving a lecture.

"Governments change."

"Markets collapse."

"Empires rise and fall."

"But information..."

He smiled.

"...controls them all."

Sebastian's voice turned icy.

"You destroyed my family."

"No."

Gabriel shook his head.

"I preserved my future."

He looked directly into the camera.

"I offered you a place beside me."

"I refused."

"You did."

"And so did Olivia."

Oliver stared at the screen.

"My mother knew about you?"

Gabriel nodded almost warmly.

"She was remarkably intelligent."

A pause.

"That made her dangerous."

Oliver felt anger rising inside him.

"What did you do to her?"

Gabriel's expression remained unreadable.

"I gave her a choice."

Ryan stepped closer to the monitor.

"What choice?"

"Disappear."

"Or watch her husband and child die."

The room froze.

Sebastian's fists clenched.

"You forced her to leave."

Gabriel inclined his head.

"She chose sacrifice."

Mrs. Harper covered her mouth.

The truth was finally surfacing.

Olivia had not abandoned her family.

She had saved them.

Gabriel continued calmly.

"She believed distance would keep you alive."

He looked at Sebastian.

"For eleven years..."

"...she was right."

Oliver felt tears burning his eyes.

His mother had lived alone.

Believing Sebastian was dead.

Believing Oliver was safer without her.

Everything she had done...

She had done out of love.

Then Gabriel sighed.

"But now you've returned."

His smile disappeared.

"And that changes everything."

He tapped his cane once against the ground.

Outside, every SUV door opened simultaneously.

Dozens of men in black tactical uniforms stepped into the rain.

Not one carried a company logo.

Not one spoke.

Each wore a silver raven embroidered on the shoulder.

Ryan counted quickly.

"Thirty..."

He kept counting.

"Forty..."

His voice tightened.

"More than fifty."

Sebastian looked around the room.

The detective.

Mrs. Harper.

The lawyer.

Oliver.

Each of them was now a target.

Gabriel's voice echoed one final time.

"Midnight."

Sebastian looked at the grandfather clock in the foyer.

11:37 p.m.

"You have twenty-three minutes."

"For what?"

Gabriel smiled.

"To decide."

"Hand me every piece of evidence."

"Forget Olivia."

"Forget Project Raven."

"And your son lives."

The smile vanished.

"Refuse..."

His blue eyes became cold as ice.

"...and before sunrise, Blackwood will become nothing more than another tragic family name."

The screens went black.

Outside, the tactical teams began advancing toward the mansion.

Slowly.

Methodically.

Like hunters who knew their prey had nowhere left to run.

Sebastian reached for Oliver's shoulder.

He spoke only four words.

"We're leaving. Now."

Ryan looked toward the hidden passage beneath the library.

"The escape tunnel?"

Sebastian nodded.

"My grandfather built it during the war."

Mrs. Harper whispered,

"It leads beyond the estate."

Sebastian picked up the folder containing every letter, every photograph, every document exposing the conspiracy.

He would not leave them behind.

As thunder shook the mansion, the ancient grandfather clock began to chime.

One...

Two...

Three...

The siege had begun.

And somewhere hundreds of miles away, Olivia suddenly woke from a nightmare.

She sat upright, her heart pounding.

Emily rushed into the room.

"Mom, what's wrong?"

Olivia looked toward the rain-covered window.

For years she had ignored the feeling.

Not tonight.

Tears filled her eyes as she whispered,

"He's in danger."

Far away, deep inside the Blackwood Estate, a hidden stone door slowly opened beneath the library floor.

Sebastian led Oliver into the darkness.

None of them noticed the tiny red light blinking inside the tunnel entrance.

Someone had already been there.

May you like

Someone was waiting.
