🔥CHAPTER 3 Fifteen Days After Giving Birth Alone, She Vanished with the Baby and Left Her Husband One Final Gift

CHAPTER 3: THE MIRROR

The video continued.

Julian couldn't look away.

Neither could his mother.

On the screen, Eleanor stood frozen in the nursery doorway, a tiny yellow onesie still hanging from her fingers.

Khloe Harper sat comfortably in the rocking chair that Eleanor had spent weeks choosing.

One long leg crossed over the other.

A glass of sparkling water rested on the windowsill.

As if she belonged there.

As if she lived there.

Julian felt sick.

Because suddenly he remembered the day.

Six months ago.

A Tuesday afternoon.

He had told Eleanor he would be in meetings.

Instead, he had brought Khloe to the house.

Just for an hour.

Just to talk.

Just to escape.

That was the lie he had told himself.

The camera captured every second.

Khloe picked up a stuffed elephant from the crib.

"So this is the famous nursery."

Eleanor said nothing.

She simply stared.

The silence stretched.

Then Khloe smiled.

Not kindly.

Not apologetically.

Cruelly.

"You know," she said, "I expected something more expensive."

Julian closed his eyes.

He remembered that smile.

At the time he had mistaken it for confidence.

Now it looked like contempt.

On the screen, Eleanor carefully folded the onesie.

Her hands trembled.

But her voice remained calm.

"Why are you here?"

Khloe shrugged.

"You should ask your husband."

The words echoed through the library.

Julian felt every syllable like a blow.

Then he heard his own voice.

Coming from somewhere outside the nursery.

Approaching.

Laughing.

Comfortable.

Careless.

A second later, he walked into the frame.

Healthy.

Relaxed.

Smiling.

The version of himself he suddenly hated.

The moment he saw Eleanor, his expression changed.

Not with guilt.

Not with concern.

With irritation.

As though she had interrupted something.

As though she was the problem.

The room inside the video became silent.

Eleanor looked at him.

He looked at Khloe.

Khloe looked amused.

And then came the moment Julian had forgotten.

The moment Eleanor had never mentioned.

The moment that apparently mattered enough for her to preserve forever.

Eleanor asked only one question.

"Are you in love with her?"

Nothing dramatic.

No screaming.

No accusations.

Just a wife asking her husband the truth.

The Julian on the screen sighed heavily.

Like a man exhausted by inconvenience.

"Not this again."

Present-day Julian gripped the phone tighter.

Every instinct inside him wanted to stop the video.

But he couldn't.

The recording continued.

Eleanor took a shaky breath.

"I'm carrying your child."

"I know."

"Then why am I standing here feeling like a stranger in my own home?"

Julian looked away from the screen.

His mother's eyes remained fixed on it.

Cold.

Unblinking.

Watching her son destroy his marriage.

Video-Julian rubbed his forehead.

"Eleanor, everything doesn't have to be emotional."

The sentence hit him harder than anything else.

Because he remembered saying it.

And because now he finally heard how cruel it sounded.

Everything doesn't have to be emotional.

A pregnant woman.

A marriage falling apart.

A family collapsing.

And that was his response.

On the screen, Eleanor's face changed.

Not dramatically.

Not visibly enough for most people.

But something disappeared.

Hope.

That was the only word for it.

Hope.

The last fragile piece of it.

Julian watched it leave her eyes.

And once it was gone, it never came back.

Eleanor nodded slowly.

As if she had finally received an answer.

Not to her question.

To every question.

Then she turned and walked out of the nursery.

No shouting.

No tears.

No threats.

She simply left.

The video ended.

The screen went black.

For several seconds nobody spoke.

The library seemed smaller somehow.

The air heavier.

Margaret finally broke the silence.

"That was the day."

Julian looked up.

"The day what?"

"The day she stopped believing in you."

Her voice carried no judgment.

Only certainty.

As though she had seen it happen.

Maybe she had.

Julian sat down heavily.

The phone remained in his hand.

Dark screen.

Dark reflection.

Dark truth.

Then another notification appeared.

His heart jumped.

A new email.

From the same anonymous address.

Subject line:

Third Gift.

His pulse accelerated.

He opened it immediately.

Inside was a single sentence.

Tomorrow at noon, check the account ending in 4271.

Nothing else.

No signature.

No explanation.

No location.

No clue.

Julian frowned.

Account 4271.

He knew that number.

Or at least he thought he did.

Then realization struck.

The college fund.

The trust account he had created for the baby months ago.

A multimillion-dollar account managed by Pierce Capital.

He had nearly forgotten it existed.

Why would Eleanor mention it?

Before he could think further, another message arrived.

This time from his private investigator.

The investigator Julian had hired less than an hour earlier.

The report was short.

Painfully short.

No trace of Mrs. Eleanor Pierce.

No airline records.

No hotel records.

No property purchases.

No financial activity under known accounts.

Someone is helping her disappear.

Julian reread the final line.

Someone is helping her.

The nurse's words returned.

A man helped with her bags.

Not yours.

The thought burned.

For months he had ignored Eleanor.

Dismissed her.

Abandoned her emotionally.

But the possibility of another man helping her now filled him with rage.

The hypocrisy should have embarrassed him.

Instead it terrified him.

Because for the first time, he understood something.

If Eleanor truly moved on...

If she found someone who listened...

Someone who stayed...

Someone who looked at her the way she deserved...

Then she might never come back.

The doorbell rang.

A servant appeared moments later.

"Miss Harper is here, sir."

Julian closed his eyes.

Of course she was.

Khloe stormed into the library before anyone could stop her.

Designer sunglasses.

Perfect makeup.

Perfect hair.

Perfect timing.

"Are you serious?" she demanded.

"You hung up on me."

Julian didn't answer.

Khloe looked between him and Margaret.

Then spotted the divorce papers.

Her expression changed.

A smile.

Small.

Victorious.

"Oh."

The single word made Julian's stomach turn.

"Oh?" Margaret repeated coldly.

Khloe folded her arms.

"Well... isn't this what everyone wanted?"

Silence.

The room temperature seemed to drop ten degrees.

Khloe continued anyway.

"Eleanor finally left. The marriage is over. Nobody has to pretend anymore."

Julian stared at her.

Really stared.

Maybe for the first time.

And what he saw shocked him.

Not because she had changed.

Because she hadn't.

She was exactly who she had always been.

The only difference was that he was finally seeing clearly.

Khloe stepped closer.

"Julian?"

Nothing.

"Say something."

He stood.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

The movement made her smile widen.

She thought she had won.

Then Julian spoke.

Four words.

Quiet.

Cold.

Final.

"Get out of my house."

Khloe blinked.

"What?"

"You heard me."

The smile disappeared.

"Julian—"

"Get out."

For the first time since she had met him, there was no affection in his voice.

No patience.

No attraction.

Nothing.

Only exhaustion.

Khloe laughed nervously.

"This is because of her?"

Julian looked directly into her eyes.

"No."

He paused.

"This is because of me."

The answer stunned even him.

Because it was true.

Not Eleanor.

Not Margaret.

Not Khloe.

Him.

Every choice.

Every excuse.

Every betrayal.

Every moment he had looked away.

Khloe's face hardened.

"You'll regret this."

Julian said nothing.

She grabbed her purse.

Then turned toward the door.

But before leaving, she smiled one final time.

A cruel smile.

A knowing smile.

The smile of someone holding a secret.

"You know," she said softly, "if you're looking for Eleanor, you're already too late."

Julian froze.

Khloe's smile widened.

Then she walked out.

The library door slammed behind her.

And for the first time that day—

Julian became afraid.

May you like

Because Khloe sounded like someone who knew something.

And tomorrow at noon, Eleanor's third gift was waiting.
