Chapter 3: What Was Hidden Was Never Meant to Stay Hidden

Professor Harrington locked the front door.

It didn't matter.

The people outside weren't trying to break in.

They already knew we couldn't run.

A woman in a charcoal suit stepped onto the porch.

She appeared to be in her sixties, elegant and composed, with silver hair pulled into a flawless knot.

She held no weapon.

Only an envelope sealed with black wax.

"My name is Eleanor Ashcroft."

Her calm voice carried through the door.

"I've come to return something that never belonged to my family."

My grandmother closed her eyes.

"So... you finally kept your promise."

Professor Harrington looked between them in confusion.

"You know her?"

"We were children together."

That answer stunned everyone.

The door opened.

Eleanor entered alone.

She handed the envelope directly to me.

"Open it."

Inside was another piece of parchment.

It matched the one from the silk packet perfectly.

The torn edges fit together like two halves of the same story.

Professor Harrington assembled them on the table.
