Chapter 6 - Redressing the Broken

The fall of Julian Hawthorne was swift and merciless.

The following morning, Ava, accompanied by Daniel and a team of federal agents, walked directly into the Hawthorne AeroSystems boardroom. Julian was in the middle of a presentation, smugly pointing at a digital slide, when the doors burst open.

By noon, Julian was in handcuffs, facing charges of corporate espionage, sabotage, and attempted kidnapping. The evidence on Nathan's drive was absolute, leaving no room for escape.

Six months later, the sun shone brightly over the grand ballroom of the Fairmont Crest Hotel, casting warm, golden light through the glass ceiling.

It was the annual gala for the Hawthorne Tomorrow Fund, but the atmosphere was entirely different. There was no pretense. No polite, distant charity.

Ava stood near the stage, wearing a stunning emerald gown. She looked radiant, the sharp, cold edge she had carried for years completely gone.

Beside her stood Daniel. He was wearing a brand-new, custom-tailored navy suit—one that actually fit his broad shoulders perfectly—though he still had the same humble, grounded posture.

And next to them was Lily, wearing a beautiful yellow dress, her dark blond curls bouncing as she chased a balloon across the marble floor.

"You look beautiful," Daniel whispered in her ear, his hand sliding naturally around her waist.

"So do you," Ava smiled, leaning into his warmth. "Though I think I still prefer you in your grease-stained apron."

"Good, because the workshop has a massive backlog of Victorian chairs waiting for me on Monday," Daniel laughed, his gray eyes crinkling with genuine happiness.

Ava reached up, her fingers gently brushing the lapel of his suit. There, pinned to his chest, was the silver compass. He had restored it, polishing the silver until it shone, but he had left the crescent-shaped scar untouched.

"Some things just need help," Ava whispered, quoting Lily's words.

"And some things are worth keeping," Daniel replied softly, his gaze dropping to her lips.

Under the glass ceiling of the Fairmont Crest, surrounded by the quiet chatter of people who finally saw them not as a tragedy, but as a triumph, Daniel leaned down and kissed her.

The ballroom didn't go silent this time. Instead, it was filled with the warm, vibrant sound of hope—a beautiful, new beginning built on the foundation of a past they had finally laid to rest.
