249 The Day I Stopped Waiting / Chapter 6 / 10 1

Chapter 6

Julian’s face turned bright red,

the veins in his neck bulging with sudden fury.

"This is none of your business, Thorne,"

Julian snapped,

stepping forward aggressively.

"This is between me and my fiancée."

Jacqueline let out a sharp,

cold laugh that stopped Julian in his tracks.

"I was never your fiancée, Julian,"

she reminded him,

her voice dripping with disdain.

"You never gave me a ring,

you only gave me promises,

and you broke them the second you landed."

Julian looked stricken,

the truth of her words piercing his fragile ego.

"I made a mistake, Jackie,

I admitted that,"

he pleaded,

his voice cracking.

"Khloe meant nothing to me,

she was just a moment of weakness."

"And I am a lifetime of strength,"

Jacqueline replied,

her eyes blazing under the moonlight.

"And I do not waste my strength on weak men."

She turned to Alexander,

slipping the black flash drive into her clutch purse.

"Thank you for the gift, Mr. Thorne,"

she said softly,

ignoring Julian completely.

"I will put it to good use tomorrow morning."

Alexander smiled,

a genuine,

dangerous smile that made Julian’s blood run cold.

"It was my pleasure, Miss Sinclair,"

Alexander said,

bowing his head slightly.

"I look forward to watching the news."

Jacqueline walked past Julian without giving him a second glance,

her heels clicking sharply against the stone balcony.

Julian tried to reach for her arm,

but Alexander stepped in his path,

blocking him effortlessly.

"I would not do that if I were you,"

Alexander warned,

his voice low and lethal.

"She is out of your league, Vance,

she always was."

Julian glared at the billionaire,

his fists shaking with impotent rage.

"You do not know anything about us,"

Julian hissed.

"I know that you had a diamond in your hands,

and you threw it in the dirt,"

Alexander replied coldly.

"And now,

you are going to watch someone else wear it."

Alexander walked away,

leaving Julian standing alone on the balcony,

the reality of his absolute ruin crashing down on him.

The next morning,

Jacqueline sat in her office,

staring at the data on her computer screen.

The flash drive Alexander had given her was a goldmine of corruption.

Richard Vance had stolen over fifty million dollars from his own company,

hiding it behind a web of shell corporations.

Jacqueline pressed the intercom button on her desk.

"David,

get the legal team in here right now,"

she ordered,

her voice sharp and decisive.

"And call the FBI white-collar crime division,

tell them we have a delivery for them."

Within three hours,

federal agents raided the Vance Corporation headquarters,

carrying out boxes of hard drives and documents.

News helicopters hovered over the building,

broadcasting the raid live on national television.

Jacqueline watched the screens in her office,

watching as Richard Vance was led out of his building in handcuffs.

He looked old,

broken,

and completely defeated.

Eleanor Vance was standing on the sidewalk,

screaming at the agents,

her perfect socialite image completely shattered.

Jacqueline felt a fleeting moment of pity,

but she quickly crushed it down.

They had used her,

manipulated her,

and treated her like a servant.

Karma was not just knocking on their door,

May you like

karma had kicked the door down,

and Jacqueline was holding the battering ram.
